Anakota Helena Montana Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Price on 09/06/10: $80.59 |
Sourced from Estate-owned mountain vineyards, Anakota is a collection of single vineyard, single varietal Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wines that exemplify the rustic elegance and spirit of Sonoma County's Mount St. Helena. Situated on the flanks and foothills of Mount St. Helena, each mountain vineyard is brought to life as stressed vines struggle with rocky soils and challenging climatic conditions to create tiny, intensely flavored berries.
Tucked away in the foothills of Mount St. Helena's highest peak, Helena Montana Vineyard is the sole source of fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon wine. Located 700 feet above sea level in Knights Valley, Helena Montana lives up to the origin of its name ”" Mountain. The soft, yet powerful Helena Montana fruit reflects vineyard slopes up to 30 degrees, as well as rocky volcanic soil - a gift left long ago by nearby volcanic activity. This tightly compacted volcanic soil gives the appearance of solid rock.
The fruit for this wine is exceptionally concentrated, as indicated by the deep, dark purple color, and the rich, black fruit bouquet. Although black fruit also prevails in the full-bodied flavor, hints of chocolate and espresso are present. Remarkably soft tannins give this 2001 vintage wine a velvet-like quality.
