Blazing red and insanely steep, the Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard fills the picturesque amphitheater formed by this dramatic bend in the river. Although it's directly adjacent to the vineyards of Erden, it produces a completely different kind of wine, with exotic, spicy aromas and a mesmerizing earthiness. No other vineyard on the Mosel produces wines so bursting with tropical fruit flavors. The estate's oldest vines are found here.

A terrific auslese, sweet but balanced near perfectly by lime-like acids. It's stony yet honeyed, concentrated yet somehow light on its feet. Then it's bright, fresh and full of juicy citrus fruit on the finish.

Profuse honeysuckle and lily in the nose of Loosen's 2009 Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Auslese lead into a sweet, creamy, kiwi-, strawberry- and melon liqueur-informed palate so delicate it takes on the irresistible aspect of chiffon, yet with enormous richness, persistent liquid floral perfume, wet stone and salted caramel soothing and seducing. This ought to merit 25-30 years of revisits.

Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.
