Emilia Nardi uses clonal selections and vinification of small lots to make the best wine possible. Nardi's Manachiara bottling is first-rate. Made with fruit from the southern part of the region, this is made in a smoother and less tannic style than some other top Brunellos.

The 2003 is made in a distinctly riper style, with more overt oak influence. Notes of jammy dark fruit, chocolate and roasted coffee beans flow from this super-ripe, masculine wine. It offers a darker profile and a rounder, texture than the normal bottling.

Good full red. Plum, redcurrant, coffee, menthol and a whiff of woodsy underbrush on the nose. In a brooding, somewhat inky style, solid and somewhat youthfully undifferentiated.

There's wonderful ripe fruit, tea, tobacco and cedar aromas. Full-bodied and complex, with chewy yet velvety tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Best after 2010. 830 cases made.
