Central Aotearoa is 42 degrees below the equator, which is where 42 BELOW was conceived. And coincidentally, we are located near one of the most sought after Aa rated deep water springs, used in crafting our vodka – some of the world’s smoothest. This is why international judges have applauded 42 BELOW for its “controlled finish that releases flavor rather than heat.”
42 Below Description
The 42 Below facility is located next to an Aa rated deep water spring, which allows the distiller to access clear, pure, New Zealand spring water. Using this flavorful, almost sweet, water as a base, 42 Below is a smooth, rich spirit with soft notes of slate, aniseed, and rye.
Wine Enthusiast: 92 Points
Smells of wet cement or damp stones in the initial minutes before the aromas shift gears, offering toasty, ash-like, smoky scents of tobacco leaf, roasted cereals, pencil eraser and vegetable oil. Palate entry shows an oily texture and tastes of charcoal and mildly sweet grain; midpalate displays well-structured flavors of lead pencil, off-dry grain and licorice. Finishes full in the mouth, acceptably fiery and off-dry.
