Billecart-Salmon Description
Appearance: This cuvee, with reflections of straw yellow, stands out by the finesse of its slowly rising bubbles and its persistent and abounding mousse.
James Suckling: 93 Points
Plenty of pinot character with strawberry and dried apple and some flint and matchstick, as well as stone. It’s medium- to full-bodied with freshness, a creamy texture and a long, delicious finish. 40% pinot meunier, 30% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir.
Vinous: 92 Points
The NV Brut Le Reserve (base 2020) is the first edition of the former Brut Reserve in its new incarnation, with the greater focus that is such a central part of the Billecart approach these days. Pliant, creamy and seductive, Le Reserve is terrific. Dried pear, hazelnut, spice, orange peel and dried flowers all meld together in an effortless, gracious Champagne that is all class. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: First Quarter 2024.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
Based on the 2018 vintage, with 55% of reserve wines, the NV Brut Réserve from Billecart-Salmon is a blend of 40% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, with a dosage of 6.2 grams per liter. It offers a bouquet with aromas of spring flowers, menthol, pastry, brioche, orchard fruits and pear. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is moderately weighted, with a delicate mousse and a perfectly balanced texture. Very charming. It concludes with a saline, aromatic finish. It represents the first stage in the qualitative evolution of the house, initiated by Mathieu Roland-Billecart.
Wine Spectator: 91 Points
Firm and minerally, this well-knit Champagne layers flavors of grainy pear, preserved lemon, toast point and crystallized honey on a creamy mousse. Reveals hints of smoke and saline on the finish. Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points
A blend of the three main Champagne varieties, this Champagne is full of fruit, texture and touches of maturity. It is an accessible wine, fresh but with a fine depth.
