Brotte Gigondas "La Marasque", is a tribute to the unique cherry aromas of this wine. "La Marasque" is a high-quality cherry used in the production of the famous Marasquin cherry liquor. The grapes grow on soils covered by white limestone which reflect the sunlight and increase the vines exposure to the sun and develops rich tannins in the grape. The wine displays great richness, flavors of cherry liquor as well as black and red jammy fruit notes.
Brotte Description
The name of a quality cherry, with acidity, renown for the making of Marasquin liqueur. A tribute to the unique cherry liqueur flavor of the cuvée. The village Gigondas received its ‘cru’ status in 1971, one of only nine villages in the Southern Rhône to do so. Located between Orange and the Mont Ventoux the appellation spreads over the south-west facing hillsides of the “Dentelles de Montmirail”, and its surrounding dales. Sand and blue marls are covered with white stones which increase sun exposure. The intensity of the latter develops the richness of tannins and polyphenols. This asset is crucial to the area as the vineyards can reach an altitude of 400m, which often means a late maturation of the berries.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
Elegant and fresh, the 2022 Gigondas la Marasque reveals aromas of dark cherries, plum and garrigue, followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegant and tense palate that segues into a juicy, gourmand and fresh finish. A blend of 70% Grenache Noir and 30% Syrah, this is a seamless, harmonious Gigondas.
Wine Spectator: 91 Points
Generous, juicy and ripe, revealing fresh boysenberry and black cherry flavors, while graphite shavings and black pepper provide a firming counterpoint. Shows a good amount of stuffing, with mesquite and char streaking the finish. Grenache and Syrah.
James Suckling: 91 Points
Cherries, crushed berries, dried herbs and baking spices dominate on the nose. Medium to full body with creamy tannins and texture. Round and velvety with a juicy core of berries and cherries at the center and a vibrant finish. Drink or hold.
Vinous: 90 Points
The 2022 Gigondas La Marasque is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Much more engaging on the palate than on the nose, it offers juicy red fruits adjacent to licorice and cedar. Medium-bodied and moderately concentrated, this stimulating Gigondas will benefit from about two more years in bottle to gain more complexity.
