Caparzo Description
Caparzo's Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna la Casa can be considered a true enological gem, and not just in terms of Montalcino. La Casa derives its name from having been the farm where some of the tenant farmers who worked for the owners of Palazzo Montosoli, which is at a distance of a few hundred meters, lived. The first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa was produced in 1977. At the time little was known of terroir, and little attention was paid to the concept of zonation, which had only recently been introduced to Montalcino. In this case Caparzo was once again a pace setter, producing a “Single Vineyard” Brunello from one of the finest vineyards in the Appellation. With Brunello di Montalcino La Casa, Caparzo also was one of the first wineries to introduce barriques to Montalcino, producing a wine with an polite, elegant spirit. Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa is the fruit of a unique terroir, and expresses all of Caparzo's passion and experience in producing excellent wines.
Vinous: 95 Points
The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa hails from the Montosoli hillside, facing the town of Montalcino. It's youthfully moody and dark in the glass, slowly evolving with violet florals, crushed wild berries and sweet spice. Silky and pliant, it sweeps across the palate with juicy textural waves of mienral-drenched red fruits as inner florals resonate and grippy tannins mount toward the close. The Vigna La Casa tapers off long, structured and classically dry, leaving a licorice twang and hints of tart orange that curl the tongue. The future is very bright, but the 2019 will require serious patience.
Wine Advocate: 95 Points
The Caparzo 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa offers a balanced presentation of candied cherry, dried fruit and toasted spice. This is a lovely and joyous wine with velvety soft tannins and good inner energy that adds dimension and depth to the mouthfeel. Vigna La Casa is a contemporary expression from Montalcino with extra fruit concentration and structure, and the results are carefully balanced throughout.
Wine Enthusiast: 95 Points
Caparzo's trademark blend of sweet fruit and savory earth reveals itself on a nose of vanilla bean and black cherries, root beer, fennel and wild mint. The palate remains classic, indulgent but not excessive, like cherry cola, effervescent with acid and brightened with a peel of orange.
James Suckling: 94 Points
A delicious red with balance and finesse and so much complexity and beauty for the vintage. Full body, fine tannins and a chocolate, mineral and ripe-fruit aftertaste. Very refined. Drink or hold.
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
There's subtle power and ample cherry, plum and mineral flavors in this smooth red, plus a hint of wild herbs. This is pretty fluid and open, with a light dusting of tannins on the lingering finish.
