Deep garnet in color, intoxicating aromas of purple fruits and wild flowers are underscored by notes of cherries, roses, and baking spices. On the palate, it is elegant, with a long spicy finish. This wine manages to be weightless and intoxicating at the same time.
Castello di Neive Description
The Barbaresco Santo Stefano is the result of an ethereal combination of the ideal terroir with the perfectly-suited Nebbiolo grape. This wine shows all the characteristic elegance of Barbaresco with the complexity and richness for which Santo Stefano is known. The Nebbiolo grapes for this wine are grown in the Albesani sub-appellation inside Barbaresco, in the single vineyard of Santo Stefano, which is owned entirely by Castello di Neive.

Cellar Selection
Red roses and wild cherries intertwine with a deeper layer of savory spices and fresh earth. The palate shows a graceful precision but adds notes of roasted coffee and forest floor on the finish. The tannins are pronounced yet refined, suggesting a wine that's engaging now and built for the future. An intellectual Barbaresco that tells a story in the glass while hinting at chapters yet to be written.
Wine Spectator: 94 Points
A rich, fleshy red marked by cherry, plum, menthol and wild herb flavors. Balanced and almost feels approachable now, yet will benefit from a few more years of bottle aging. Packs a long aftertaste that echoes the fruit and herb accents.
James Suckling: 92 Points
This shows notes of sour cherries, ground spices and dried herbs. Hints of bark, too. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine, chalky tannins. Juicy and crunchy red-fruited character. Polished, attractive and fresh. Drink or hold.
Vinous: 92 Points
The 2020 Barbaresco is a very pretty, classy wine. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, tobacco, cedar and mint are some of the notes that waft from the glass in this attractive, mid-weight Barbaresco. I would give this a bit of air to help the bouquet come together. It's a lovely wine from Castello di Neive, and absolutely stellar in its peer group.
