A wine that provides extreme sensations, everything seems perfectly in place. The nose, still discrete, reveals the balance of the bouquet, carried by fresh leather, violet, and cherry. On the palate, almost shy at first, it gradually unveils its incredible power, perfectly tamed by remarkably silky tannins. It is so complex that you know it is still hiding much more, even though everything is already there: power, elegance, balance. The finish is long and ends with perfect precision. It’s like lacework, a future masterpiece!
Chateau Lafite-Rothschild Description
Each barrel is tasted individually and only the best are selected for the final blend. After blending, the wine is aged in new oak barrels for 15 months. Fermentation takes place over 15 days at a controlled temperature of 18°C.
For the Grand Vin Château Lafite Rothschild, only vines older than 10 years are used. Although each vintage is unique, there is usually a large proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, then Merlot, with a small contribution of Petit Verdot.
Wine Enthusiast: 99 Points
Ripe black fruit and dense spice aromas dominate this finely balanced wine. It has structured tannins and juicy black-currant flavors. Quantities are good and the estate seems to have won the race against mildew and heatwaves. This has the potential to be a great wine. Organic.
James Suckling: 98 Points
Very perfumed, with currants, orange peel, strawberries, cedar and lead pencil. Medium-bodied, with ultrafine tannins that are completely integrated into the wine, giving a graceful and seductive finish. Weightless. It's so long and caressing, making you smile with each sip. A joyful young Lafite. 93% cabernet sauvignon, 6% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Best after 2028 but so beautiful now.
Vinous: 98 Points
The 2023 Lafite-Rothschild is a rich, heady wine. A rush of dark-toned fruit, cedar, leather, incense, grilled herbs, tobacco, and chocolate makes a strong opening statement. Powerful and quite tannic, the 2023 is going to need a few years to come into its own. Today, the Grand Vin is decidedly somber and brooding.
Wine Advocate: 96 Points
Bottled a touch earlier than usual due to the extensive construction work that is ongoing at the estate, the 2023 Lafite Rothschild offers up notes of cassis and plums mingled with pencil shavings, spices and a subtle touch of fresh leather. Medium- to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's rich and youthfully structured, with supple, powdery tannins, lively acids and a sapid finish.
