The Laroque vineyards, many of them old and all planted with authentic mass selections from the original Merlot and Cabernet Franc, represent an exceptional living heritage of 61 hectares. Naturally, each new planting is an opportunity to keep these priceless old vines alive. Being able to preserve them in their rich diversity is Laroque’s good fortune.

Chateau Laroque Description
Arriving at Laroque is a wonderful experience. On the edge of the rocky plateau, overlooking the undulating hillsides of the Grande Combe de Saint-Laurent, LA-ROQUE sets the tone. Here, vines are planted everywhere in the three types of limestone that are emblematic of the appellation: blond clay (to the west) and red clay (Agen Molasse, to the east) on asteriated limestone plateaux, terraces to the east and hillsides to the west on fine creamy white clay (Fronsac molasse). And it is this variety of soils and relief that gives this vineyard its unique character. Elegant, nuanced, floral, subtle, radiant, long, energetic, light, iodised.
Vinous: 95 Points
The 2023 Laroque is classy, elegant and polished. A wine of total understatement and class, Laroque sizzles with all of the tension that is such a signature of the limestone parcels. In some recent vintages, Laroque has been more charming at the outset. The 2023, on the other hand, is a wine that is going to require a few years in bottle to be at its finest.
James Suckling: 94 Points
Aromas of currants, crushed stones, chalk and dried flowers. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are integrated and polished. Red currant, cherry and orange peel flavors with a salty undertone. It’s refined and beautiful, with finesse and complexity. 99% merlot and 1% cabernet franc. So drinkable now. Drink or hold.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
A blend of 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Laroque is broodier and more introverted than expected, revealing aromas of smoke, licorice, gentian and dark wild berries. Medium- to full-bodied, firm and dense, it is structured around a compact core of fruit framed by powdery tannins, concluding with a long, ethereal and saline finish.
