Chateau Lynch-Moussas Description
The Château was founded in the 18th century by a member of the Lynch Family. We can trace the origin of the "Moussas" name back to the 16th century. In 1919 the property was purchased by the Castéja family, at that time also owner of Duhart-Milon and later was inherited by Emile Castéja. Philippe Castéja, Emile Castéja's son, has been in charge of the property and its vineyards since. Château Lynch-Moussas is a typical Pauillac exhibiting a dark colour, a fruitful bouquet, a lot of softness with ripe tannins.
James Suckling: 94 Points
Classic aromas of lead pencil, blackcurrants and currant bush. Medium to full body, velvety tannins and a focused finish. A beauty. So classy and serious. Best ever? Hard not to drink now. Almost all cabernet sauvignon.
Vinous: 91 Points
The 2014 Lynch-Moussas has open-knit red fruit on the nose:red cherries, raspberry and wild strawberry all tinged with vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with a little sharpness on the entry, very traditional in style with an austere pencil-lead finish that at least contains decent freshness.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
The 2014 Lynch Moussas was actually more expressive than the 2014 Batailley on the nose with lifted redcurrant, cranberry and wild strawberry scents mingling with sous-bois and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and a keen line of acidity, well balanced with attractive smoke and tobacco notes complementing the red berry fruit on the finish. This has good potential, a Pauillac that is likely to be underappreciated by the market, yet to register the improvement at the Castèja family's estate.
Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points
The earlier tannins in this wine have softened considerably. Now it is dominated by ripe fruit. The wine is soft and jammy with attractive black currants and a layer of firm tannins underneath.
