The red Châteauneuf can be enjoyed from the second year after bottling with a black fruit dominant note and a subtle roasted character. They reach their first plenitude between the 5th and the 8th year, but can be cellared much longer depending on vintage and cellaring conditions. Ideally pair with red meats in sauce, game and cow cheese.
Chateau Mont-Redon Description
Thirteen grape varieties (white and red) can be used to make a Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine. Château Mont-Redon cultivates and vinify all thirteen. Grenache (red or white) is the predominant grape in all blends. The king of all southern Rhône grapes, Grenache has incredible aromatic potential. Producing a velvety sensation when tasting and giving a wine a powerful background structure. Such a large and high quality palette of grapes allows Mont Redon to create subtle relationships between them, always in the goal of producing wines that are perfectly harmonious and balanced, with great complexity. These blends are the reflection of the terroir and of the estate’s own personality.
James Suckling: 97 Points
Brimming with youthful Amarena cherry fruit, this has excellent concentration but also a compact tannic core. Really needs some time to open up. Very long and intense finish with stacks of licorice.
Vinous: 92 Points
Vinified from fully destemmed grapes, the deep ruby-colored 2023 Chateauneuf-du-Pape develops with red and black plum, licorice, fresh violets, and leafy elements. Full-bodied and polished, it touches the palate with a juicy core of fruit and finishes with good freshness on the bright resolution.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
A blend of 60% Grenache Noir, 31% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre and a small percentage of other permitted varieties, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape from Château Mont-Redon is somewhat introverted and oak-driven, opening with aromas of toast, spices and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, enveloping and creamy, it is dense and structured, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by assertive oak tannins. Well-balanced and competently executed, it remains, however, rather too marked by oak for my taste.
