The Alta Mora Etna Bianco is a bright yellow color, with deep aromas of ripe apple, white flowers, lemon icing and ginger. It is spicy and rich, finishes long with nuances of minty herbs at the back.
Cusumano Description
Alta Mora is a new winery from the Cusumano family. These grapes are grown and harvested on the slopes of the active volcano Mt. Etna in Sicily. It has been a lifelong dream for the Cusumano brothers to build a winery among these black, fertile and dynamic soils. The name Alta Mora translates to “Tall, Black” representing the great heights of the vineyards on the mountain and the dark, black volcanic soil. The volcano itself is nearly 11,000ft high and vineyards are planted up to 4,000ft high.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
The Alta Mora 2023 Etna Bianco is 100% Carricante that is aged in stainless steel on the fine lees for 10 months. The fruit used here represents an informal blend from the Contrade Arrigo, Verzelle and Piano dei Daini. This wine shows a golden straw color with medium texture and a little extra heft from a hot vintage that you feel over the palate. It offers waxy aromas of sweet peach and poached pear. There is more richness here compared to your standard Etna Bianco.
Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points
The nose has the fresh tang of lemon, lime and pink grapefruit, and gains texture and salinity from aromas of crushed rocks and tennis balls. Wet slate headlines the super saline palate, with more grapefruit for cohesion, before a stream of acid bolsters highlights apple notes on the finish.
