This wine highlights the character of old Châteauneuf-du-Pape vines. It has a deep color and a very pronounced body, balanced by the roundness of the Grenache and a lingering fnish.
70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre
Domaine Chante Cigale Description
70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre from the oldest plots, 80-100 year old vines from Cabrieres (stoney plateau), Bois Dauphins (sandy), and Arnesque (galets river stones). The Grenache and Mourvedre are aged for 12 months in demi-muids and the Syrah is aged in barrels. Limited production.
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
A big, gutsy style, with a chewy mix of black cherry, steeped plum, iron and earth. Smoky and full, showing lavender notes and a cooling blast of menthol and herbs alongside charred alder. Grippy tannins hold firm for the substantial finish, which still needs time to unwind. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2026 through 2033. 200 cases made, 35 cases imported.
Vinous: 90 Points
The 2023 Chateauneuf-du-Pape introduces itself with fresh strawberries, red plum, violet and a dash of white pepper. Full-bodied, round and polished, the 2023 is a highly enjoyable, perfumed rendition of this wine that's going to dazzle right out of the gate.
