Green gold with silver highlights. Complex, with flinty, toasty, and spicy notes. Energy and tension. Chiseled texture, with lemony, spicy, and peppery notes. Lively bitterness on the finish.
Domaine Jacques Prieur Description
A large plot with the evocative name of “Les Champs au pied du Mont” (or “The Fields at the Foot of the Mountain”), located on the slope overlooking the outskirts of Beaune. This vineyard, facing due east, produces both red and white wine. Chardonnay is planted on the upper part of the slope with chalky soil that gives its mineral characteristics and unique personality. There is also often a salty flavor on the aftertaste.
James Suckling: 96 Points
A rich and beautiful white that verges on exotic, showing dried pineapple and apple, as well as white peaches and spices. It's full-bodied and layered with white flowers and honey. Long and flavorful. Solid and rich. Just a hint of walnut and toast at the finish. Drink or hold.
Burghound: 92 Points
Here too there is just enough wood to merit pointing out suffusing the ripe and vaguely exotic aromas of passion fruit and white peach. The middle weight flavors are not as powerful or concentrated as those of the Grèves but they're notably finer with more evident minerality adding a sense of relief to the chalky, youthfully austere and balanced finale. This refreshing effort could use better depth so a few years of keeping should help.
