Fattoria le Pupille Description
The story of this cru begins in 1996, when Elisabetta Geppetti purchased a magnificent vineyard that proved to be an incomparable habitat for Sangiovese, Tuscany’s royal grape variety. Following its replanting, the Poggio Valente vineyard now expresses to the highest degree its personality, with a “Maremma elegance” that embraces Elisabetta’s winemaking philosophy and her passion for viticulture on this distinctive part of our coast.
James Suckling: 95 Points
This is very dense and structured with stone and blackberry character. Full-bodied and intense with chewy tannins that frame the wine. Flavorful finish. Smoky and lightly bitter, in a good way. Pure sangiovese.
Wine Advocate: 95 Points
The Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Poggio Valente fires on all cylinders with gorgeous fullness, darkly concentrated fruit and lots of pretty intensity. The wine is redolent of dark cherry and blackberry, and these fruit tones are folded into subtle hints of spice and toast. Ripe fruit flavors tie into the deep and texture of the mouthfeel. The vintage is a steal.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2019 Poggio Valente is gorgeous. Bright and vibrant int he glass with terrific energy, the Poggio Valente is a fine example of the style favored here these days. Dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, spice and orange zest complement a core of Sangiovese fruit. I especially like the vibrancy here. The 2019 is absolutely delicious. That's all there is to it.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
A red with intensity on a weightless frame, leaving plenty of room for cherry, blackberry, chocolate, nutmeg and white pepper flavors to shine. The tannins are present, yet uplifting rather than obtrusive. Sangiovese.
Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points
Vanilla, chocolate and cherry set a sweet tone to the nose of this Sangiovese, before opening up to a woodsiness of herbs and soil. The palate maintains the chocolate-cherry notes, with some strawberry, herbs and wet rock. Polished, approachable tannins align with peppy acid in a strong finish.
