Opaque, dark ruby color introduces this wine that expresses dark fruit aroma and flavors. With spicy sweet oak complexity, the wine exudes dark fruit such as blackberry, black currant, blueberry and dark cherry. There are nuances of dark chocolate, chocolate berry truffle dusted with cocoa powder, cola, aromatic cedar, cinnamon, clove, graham crackers and a hint of tobacco. The body is very full with a soft entry, coupled with dark cherry/berry flavors that develop from start to finish. With great texture and mouth feel, this Cabernet is full-bodied, rich and opulent.
95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot
Freemark Abbey Description
Our 2021 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is our interpretation of a quintessentially classic style. The color is deep garnet and the nose yields aromas of dark chocolate, pomegranate, cedar shavings, blackberry, and leather. The palate exhibits flavors of blueberry compote, black cherry, espresso, and cigar box with bright and juicy fruit forward sensations. The texture is rich and bold with well-structured tannins that make it approachable now and will yield great results in the cellar for decades. Aging potential in a proper cellar is 15 years or more.
James Suckling: 94 Points
Love the aromas of currants, sweet tobacco, lead pencil, and hints of redwood. Medium to full body with beautifully integrated tannins that are polished and refined. Fresh and nicely balanced. A beauty. A blend of 94% cabernet sauvignon, 5% petit verdot and 1% merlot. So drinkable now.
Wine Enthusiast: 94 Points
Brooding, dark fruits, black cherry and sweet cassis blend with tobacco and spice. Savory notes emerge with further sipping. Powdery fine, palate coating tannins and a juicy long finish pleasingly evolve with each taste. Decant and enjoy with a meal.
Wine Spectator: 91 Points
Ripe, fresh and forward, with a core of black cherry and plum compote threaded with light licorice and apple wood notes. A flash of violet checks in on the finish.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
Sourced from estate sites in Oakville and Calistoga and incorporating purchased fruit as well, there are 11,000 cases of the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, about half the usual volume. Aged in just under 50% new French oak, it easily marries cherries with notes of vanilla and brown sugar. It's full-bodied and concentrated, richly tannic but ripe, with a lingering, dusty finish.
