Louis Jadot Description
The Beaune vineyards are the most extensive of the Côte de Beaune, with a high number of Premiers Crus (36) due to the ideal incline of the majority of these vineyards. Clos des Ursules is a walled portion (or clos) of the Premier Cru Vignes Franches vineyard and has been owned by the Jadot family since 1826. The Pinot Noir grapes are destemmed and fermented in open tanks for up to one month, then matured in oak barrels for 15 to 18 months before blending.

A tight, savory red with ripe strawberry, cherry and raspberry character. Some chocolate and hazelnut undertones. It’s full-bodied and layered with chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. White pepper just at the end. Better after 2022.

A lithe, well-defined red, exhibiting cherry, raspberry, earth and spice aromas and flavors. It's balanced and long, with the promise of more charm in 2-3 years. Best from 2024 through 2038. 350 cases imported.

The 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is showing very well in bottle, unwinding in the glass with a pretty but youthfully reserved bouquet of sweet red berries, plums and cassis, mingled with hints of dark chocolate, warm spices and coniferous forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, it's elegant—even polished—with a succulent core of fruit, lively acids and a nicely defined finish. At maturity—which will demand a decade's patience, even if this can be approached sooner—this will be an especially sumptuous Clos des Ursules. Drink from 2025 to 2055

Smoke, iron oxide, stone and red cherry unite on the nose of this wine. Cherry and smoke reappear and come with a flinty edge on a palate that is as ripe and firm as it is fresh. Tannins are fine but bold, allowing freshness to peek through. The finish is fresh and still a little grainy. Drink 2022–2032

The 2018 Beaune Clos des Ursules 1er Cru has the finest bouquet out of Jadot's Beaune Premiers, featuring copious dark cherry, crushed strawberry and blueberry aromas that are very well defined. The fleshy, rounded palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity and a fine-boned, quite persistent and certainly elegant finish. Excellent.

Outstanding
A very deft touch of wood sets off the ripe and mostly dark berry fruit aromas that are trimmed in noticeable earth. The attractively punchy and well-detailed medium weight flavors are nicely refined while offering a subtle minerality on the moderately structured and youthfully austere finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. At least some patience suggested.
