Louis Jadot Description
The Beaune vineyards are the most extensive of the Côte de Beaune, with a high number of Premiers Crus (36) due to the ideal incline of the majority of these vineyards. Clos des Ursules is a walled portion (or clos) of the Premier Cru Vignes Franches vineyard and has been owned by the Jadot family since 1826. The Pinot Noir grapes are destemmed and fermented in open tanks for up to one month, then matured in oak barrels for 15 to 18 months before blending.

The purity and beauty to this wine is certainly impressive with raspberry, blueberry and lavender aromas. Simple character on the palate with a full body, chewy and round tannins and a savory finish, leaving flint, dried black-tea and spice on the aftertaste. Very impressive. Try after 2023.

This walled vineyard, part of the Vignes Franches premier cru, has produced a generous wine full of dark tannins, black fruits and a dense texture. Ripe black-cherry flavors are balanced by good acidity in a wine that will develop well. Drink from 2025.

Captivating aromas of violet, black currant and black cherry are the hallmarks of this elegant red. Intense, featuring saturated flavors driven by vibrant acidity and embedded in the matrix of tannins. Shows excellent length, with a mineral accent. The 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is showing very well indeed from bottle, wafting from the glass with a beautifully pure bouquet of red cherries, plums, subtle spices and citrus peel that only hint at the tertiary complexity to come with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, elegant and velvety, with excellent depth at the core, succulent acids and a long, precise finish. The sheer finesse of this Clos des Ursules' tannins is really quite striking, but while that renders it deceptively approachable now, the real excitement will come with the better part of a decade of bottle age.
Vinous: 92 Points
Good dark red. Aromas of cherry and flowers are complemented by a hint of mocha. Plusher in texture than the Bressandes but also with good reserve to its flavors of dark cherry and menthol. Turns more imploded and medicinal on the back half, ultimately finishing with a firm tannic spine. This solidly structured wine is a bit less sweet and floral than the Bressandes and more dominated by soil tones in the early going.
Burghound: 91 Points
Much more discreet though not invisible wood is present on the essence of red cherry, plum and earth-inflected aromas. Once again there is fine mid-palate density to the sappy and extract-rich medium-bodied flavors that possess a taut muscularity that really comes up on the robust and very firm finish that is a bit chewy if not actually tough. While I doubt that this will ultimately be as refined as it usually is with age, it should still be very good and possibly even excellent.
