Opulent and generous with aromas of earth, lemon curd, white flowers, and damp earth. This white is broadly textured and expansive with a long candied citrus finish.
Famille Gagey
Louis Jadot Description
This plot was acquired by Andre Gagey in 1985 and planted to Chardonnay, unusual for the Beaune appellation. Lying at the foot of the Grèves premier cru this site features deeper clay and alluvial silt which contribute to the overall full body and rich texture of this white wine. Manual harvesting and rigorous sorting are followed by fermentation with natural yeasts and aging in cask for 14 months.
James Suckling: 95 Points
A beautiful white Burgundy that won't break the bank! Deep and complex nose, with a wide range of citrus and yellow stone fruit. plus a delicate vanilla touch. Excellent structure and concentration. Quite generous body, but this is so focused that it feels much lighter than it really is, and the vitality at the finish greatly increases this impression. The delicate vanilla oak is so beautifully integrated into the picture. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Le Clos Blanc (Domaine Gagey) is another success this year, bursting with aromas of fresh pear, green apple, crushed mint, buttery pastry and almonds. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, it's lively and precise, with chalky structure and a saline finish.
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
An intense white, despite its lithe feel and silky texture. Shows lemon oil, peach, mineral and baking spice flavors that prevail, with a lingering finish, courtesy of lively acidity.
Vinous: 92 Points
The 2020 Beaune Greves le Clos Blanc 1er Cru has a light patisserie touch on the nose, the scent of walking into a French bakery and that subtle whiff of almond croissants! The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a little more cohesion compared with the Bressandes Blanc and a touch more salinity on the finish. Very fine.
Burghound: 91 Points
Prominent smoky nuances suffuse the ripe and fresh aromas of lemon-lime and just sliced apple and fennel. The round, succulent and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors display a similar citrusy, clean and mildly tannic finale.
