Louis Jadot Description
The wines of Morey Saint Denis, where this Grand Cru is located, have their own character: powerful like the wines of its neighbor Gevrey-Chambertin yet elegant like the wines of Chambolle-Musigny. Clos Saint Denis once belonged to the church of Saint Denis, founded in 1203 in the Vergy château. The vineyard faces east on calcareous clay, iron and marl soils. This Pinot Noir wine is fermented for up to 4 weeks in vats, and then matured in oak barrels for 18 to 20 months.
Wine Advocate: 95 Points
Pure and elegant, the 2021 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru (Domaine Gagey) opens in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, cherries, rose petals, spices and raw cocoa. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a long, saline finish, it has turned out beautifully.
Burghound: 94 Points
Moderate wood stops short of masking the nuances of the cool, spicy and floral-suffused aromas of mostly red cherry and exotic tea. The vibrant and caressing medium-bodied flavors are finer still thanks to the dense but fine tannins shaping the sneaky long and balanced finale. This too could use better depth, but the Jadot CSD has an established track record of developing more with age.
Vinous: 92 Points
The 2021 Clos Saint-Denis Grand cru has a pastille-like purity on the nose with sensual red cherries, redcurrant and cranberry aromas all deftly entwined with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins. It's structured and bold.
