Louis Jadot Description
In the commune of Aloxe-Corton, in the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, more than half of the vineyard area is Grand Cru vineyards. The Grand Cru vineyard of Les Pougets is adjacent to Le Charlemagne on the mid- and upper slope on varied soils of chalk and iron-rich marl. The Pinot Noir grapes are fermented in vats for up to 4 weeks, and then the wine is matured for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels.
Wine Enthusiast: 96 Points
This wine produced from vines on the Corton hill is dense and dark, with great power and concentration. Its rich, dark fruit is paired with intense, juicy acidity, ensuring slow development over many years.
James Suckling: 95 Points
The clarity is very attractive to this wine with a plum, citrus and orange-peel character. Full body that sneaks up on you with a stone and tannic character. Needs time to soften a little. Excellent potential for aging.
Vinous: 94 Points
Bright medium red. Spicy red fruits and dried rose on the nose, with complicating hints of pepper, herbs and menthol. Offers a wonderfully refined texture and sneaky intensity in the mouth, showing enticing mineral lift to its cherry, raspberry, pepper and spice flavors. Nothing about this filled-in wine says light vintage; on the contrary, it boasts a terrific plush texture and captivating sweetness, but with tautness and sharp definition. A Corton grand cru with real finesse and perfumed lift, not to mention soil character. Substantial firm, fine-grained tannins give it plenty of structural support for aging. Will this wine go into a shell or will it always be appealing? This was more reserved from barrel but is a beauty today.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
A rich, opulent red, this boasts cherry, spice, toast and mineral flavors. All the components are in the right proportions. Extends nicely, tapering on the finish. Spicy aftertaste.
Burghound: 93 Points
A hint of wood sets off ripe, fresh and complex aromas of violet, red currant and plenty of earth and sauvage influences. There is good richness to the velvety middle weight plus flavors that retain solid precision and vibrancy on the firm, moderately austere and wonderfully persistent mineral-laden finish. This is very Pougets in basic character which is to say that it's one of the more elegant if still muscular of the Corton grands crus.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
The 2014 Corton Pougets Grand Cru has a light marine influence on the nose that laps against the redcurrant and cranberry fruit, just a touch of red plum in the background. The palate is supple and lithe in the mouth, the oak nicely integrated, quite minerally with good density and grip in the finish.
