Domaine Louis Jadot
Louis Jadot Description
There are 26 Premiers Crus in Gevrey-Chambertin, of which half are located in the valley called Combe de Lavaux, on calcareous and clay soil with marl. Clos Saint Jacques is oriented to the southeast and has only five owners. The Pinot Noir grapes are fermented in vats for up to 4 weeks, and then the wine is matured in oak barrels for 18 to 20 months.

Cellar Selection
With its dense tannins and concentration, this wine is impressive both for aging and for its power. With bold structure the wine sustains the black fruits with verve. It will age well and will not be ready before 2025.
Wine Advocate: 94 Points
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) unfurls in the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of sweet red berries, coffee roast, raw cocoa, candied peel and cedary new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with an abundance of satiny structuring tannin, juicy acids and a long, pure finish. As usual, this will require some bottle age, but it's one of the high points of the collection.
Burghound: 93 Points
Outstanding
This backward effort requires extensive swirling to reveal its restrained and spicy nose that mixes both red and dark currant, freshly turned earth and whisper of wood toast. There is exceptionally good richness and volume to the concentrated medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a velvety mouthfeel as well as buffers the notably firm tannic spine shaping the muscular and youthfully austere finale. This intensely mineral-driven effort is clearly going to require time to soften the firm supporting tannins but also develop better depth. Lovely and a relatively understated CSJ.
James Suckling: 93 Points
Shows a solid finish with ripe and linear tannins, as well as attractive sliced-strawberry, raspberry and citrus flavors. Medium to full body. Solid. Give it three to four years to soften. Try after 2023.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a flamboyant bouquet of layers of brambly red fruit, undergrowth and hints of crushed stone and wilted rose petal. You could nose this all day if you had nothing better to do. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity, demonstrating more depth than Fourrier, though perhaps not quite the same degree of transparency. Persistent and voluminous, this has the sweetest finish, but there is the structure to back it up. Excellent.
