This was a very warm and early vintage with a slight lack of moisture which reduced the harvest volumes while ensuring complexity and phenolic ripeness.
Louis Jadot Description
This is from a very small and rarely seen Premier Cru site at the top of the slope on the north section of this appellation. Soils are very thin with limestone bedrock at the surface. Exposure is Southeast. Wines from this site typically express elegance and delicacy and can be among the most refined wines of this famous village.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
Though marked by new oak, this has a shaft of alluring cherry and raspberry fruit at its core. This red's spice theme continues throughout, with an emerging mineral element. Features firm, refined tannins and refreshing acidity, which provide support and balance.
Vinous: 91 Points
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Poissenot 1er Cru has a lively bouquet with black cherry and boysenberry fruit, a subtle marine influence emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit laced with orange rind and marjoram, well balanced with a harmonious open-knit finish.
Burghound: 90 Points
A distinctly ripe yet not over-the-top nose of black cherry, cassis and a touch of Gevrey style earth. I was frankly surprised by how supple and relatively forward the suave velvet-textured middleweight flavors are and while possess reasonably good depth and persistence, they lack the precision and minerality of the best of this lovely range of Gevrey 1ers. To be sure, this is a quality effort that is satisfying in its fashion. Moreover, it's a wine that could be enjoyed now or 15 years from now.
