Initially dense and earthy, with aromas of mossy forest floor and dark fruits.Tannins are dense yet fine making this a perfect pair to various forms of protein. Over time the powerful framework becomes more round and generous yielding more subtle spice and floral notes.
Louis Jadot Description
Originating from terroir in the southern sector of the appellation, this area is distinguished by unique “blue” marls and deep soils. The resulting wines tend to be solidly structured, muscular and tannic. Pinot Noir here is hand harvested, fermented with natural yeasts, and aged for 18 months in oak. These wines will age to good effect for many years.
Burghound: 93 Points
Outstanding
Ripe but reasonably fresh aromas include those of various red berries, the sauvage, earth and hints of leather. There is fine volume and solid if not truly special density to the supple and rounded medium-bodied flavors that immediately tighten up on the focused, muscular and overtly powerful finish. This dusty if robust and youthfully austere effort will absolutely require at least some patience.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains (Maison Louis Jadot) offers up notes of plums, cherries, raw cocoa and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a rich chassis of powdery structuring tannins and succulent acids, it's a powerful, muscular wine that will merit a bit of patience. Drink from 2025 to 2050.
Vinous: 91 Points
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru has a potent, marine-influenced bouquet, with oyster shells and brine permeating the black fruit, all very well defined. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannins and good acidity.
