Deep and enticing aromas of blueberry, red currant, and vanilla cream rise from the glass. The palate is rich and textural, with flavors of sweet boysenberry pie, black tea, and subtle baking spice. The Moonshine Pinot Noir finishes with notable weight, lifted by a graceful edge of blood orange zest that adds intrigue and complexity.
Martinelli Description
Back during prohibition the owners of Moonshine Ranch used to run ‘shine on this ranch in the existing barn. The owner used to sneak out in the middle of the night, while his wife slept to tend to the still. The wife got suspicious and thought it was another woman he was going to see, so she hired a private detective to follow him. When the detective discovered he was making moonshine, he had the man arrested and thrown in jail. The barn still stands on the property today, but houses tractors now instead.
Wine Spectator: 95 Points
Ripe, rich and silky in feel, offering a gorgeous range and mouthfeel, with raspberry and blood orange pâte de fruit notes draped over rooibos tea, rosehip and singed vanilla notes. All of the elements meld nicely through the long, licorice-accented finish.
Vinous: 94 Points
The 2022 Pinot Noir Moonshine Ranch Vineyard is ensowed with notable textural richness and breadth. It also shows a darker fruit profile than some of the other wines in this range. A powerhouse Pinot, the 2022 is going to need a few years to be at its most expressive. Bright acids and veins of supporting tannin suggest it will drink well for many years to come. Hints of lavender, baking spice and leather linger.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
The 2022 Pinot Noir Moonshine Ranch is reluctant on the nose, demanding air to reveal scents of raspberry and strawberry preserves, pipe tobacco and earth. The light-bodied palate is soft and inviting with elegant flavors, fireworks of fresh acidity and a touch of new oak spice on the finish. Give it a year or two in bottle or a couple of hours in a decanter. 341 cases produced.
