The estate, an old farmhouse from the 1700s, has been completely renovated, maintaining the original structure of the Tuscan style. The cellars and vinification area have been completely modernized. While further prestige has been given to the ageing, a traditional subterranean cellar, reserving a place under the main farmhouse for the obligatory refinement in the bottle before release. The complete commitment of the Loia-Palazzo family embraces the entire production cycle, from the processing of the vineyards, to the vinification and aging, to the marketing of their wines.
Palazzo Description
Azienda Palazzo, owned by Loia-Palazzo family, located in the southeastern area of Montalcino, in a dominant position at 320 s.l.m., covers a total area of 12 hectares, of which 4 are cultivated with Sangiovese Grosso Brunello vineyards and 3 of Olive grove. Practicing "Integrated Agriculture" using only organic fertilizers and disinfectants for organic farming. The terroir present layers of original rocks, in particular galestro marl, but also rich in limestone. The vineyards are located in beautiful landscape, exposed to the sun from morning until evening, also very well protected from the north breezes. A strict selection, during the vegetative cycle, allows the grapes to mature well before being strictly hand-picked.
James Suckling: 95 Points
A full-bodied red with cherry, walnut and coffee undertones. It’s full and complete with beautiful intensity and a focused tannin structure. Very tight and intense. Perhaps the best ever. Better after 2025.
Vinous: 94 Points
The darkly alluring and spicy 2016 Brunello di Montalcino lifts up with a display of white smoke giving way to black cherries, sage, a dusting of cinnamon, clove and hints of licorice. It's medium in body and silky in texture, showing gorgeous inner sweetness as balsamic-laced red berries and minerals cascade across the palate. The tannins are round yet persistent, balanced by vibrant acids which maintain freshness, finishing with excellent length and remnants of primary fruit. The 2016 Palazzo needs some cellaring to show its best, and it's full of potential.
Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points
Cellar Selection
A camphor aroma joins new leather, underbrush and pipe tobacco in this classically crafted Brunello. Youthfully austere and firmly structured, the palate delivers dried cherry, licorice and grilled porcini set against a tannic backbone. It's still young but balanced by fresh acidity. Give it plenty of time to come around. Drink 2026.
