Paul Jaboulet Aine Description
A classic since 1950, Parallèle 45 is the oldest Côtes du Rhône brand still in existence. Parallèle 45 is named after the 45th parallel, a famous circle of latitude that passes over the cellars of Paul Jaboulet Aîné. It is known as the “Latitude of Great Wines”, crossing over Willamette Valley in Oregon, Bordeaux in France, Piedmont in Italy, and of course the Rhône Valley in France. The grapes for Parallèle 45 are farmed organically. They grow on 40-year-old vines in clayey limestone and alluvial deposits composed of round pebbles. The grapes are destemmed, crushed, and the juice undergoes fermentation. The wine is then aged for 6 months in stainless steel vats.
James Suckling: 91 Points
The smoke and black pepper notes of syrah are intertwined with the fleshiness and mellower personality of the grenache grape in a very convincing manner. Behind this is a solid base of supple tannins that has been expertly crafted. The generous red fruit and touches of blackberries and summer flowers give this a lot of appeal. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
