Chateau Latour a Pomerol Description
The vineyard is characterised by the diversity of its soils, which brings complexity and harmony to the wine: gravel and clay for a marvellous parcel next to the church of Pomerol; loam surrounding the château. The vineyard receives the same care applied to all the J.P. Moueix properties: leaf-thinning and green-harvesting to allow for optimal grape maturity followed by a manual harvest. The wine ferments in concrete vats before being aged in oak barrels. Château Latour à Pomerol is known for producing generous, concentrated wines that strike a perfect balance between elegance and power.
Vinous: 95 Points
Bright red cherry, raspberry, and expressive floral notes from the Cabernet Franc are some of the signatures in the 2014 Latour a Pomerol. A wine of precision, tension, and energy, the 2014 exudes class. Hints of white pepper and cranberry add further brightness as the wine gradually opens up. The 2014 has become more polished and finessed over the last two years than it was from barrel. Today, it is sublime.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points
The tannins and density of this wine are impressive. With its strong structure and concentrated fruit, the wine is ripe and likely to age well. Blackberry and red-cherry flavors dominate a wine that is going to be ready to drink from 2022.
James Suckling: 93 Points
Plenty of fruit to this subtle young wine with blackberry, cherry and wet earth character. Full-bodied, chewy and long. Lively acidity on the finish.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
The 2014 Latour a Pomerol has a similar bouquet to the 2014 La Grave-à-Pomerol at first, yet there is immediately more intensity here, still tertiary with scents of warm gravel on a summer's day and black truffle developing with time in the glass. The palate is well structured, a solid backbone here that supports the layers of spicy blackberry and wild strawberry fruit. This is a Pomerol whereby the more I get to know it, the more I fall for its charms and appreciate that tension and energy on the finish. There is a real flourish to this Pomerol that surpasses its showing from barrel.
