Domaine Chavy Description
The sons of Gerald Chavy have split their fathers’ holdings into two domains. They remain one of a handful of growers that still reside in Puligny. Most domains are now owned by outsiders. Decanter Magazine selected both Alain and Jean Louis Chavy as one of 'the most improved domains in Burgundy. They own great vineyard sites, especially the Folatieres.Alain Chavy produces restrained, structured, and long-lived white Burgundies from 17 acres of vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, with small holdings in the neighboring villages of Chassagne, Meursault, and Saint Aubin. Domaine Alain Chavy was established in 2003 with vineyards inherited from his father and grandfather and includes some of Puligny's top premier crus. The village of Saint-Aubin, neighbor to Chassagne and Puligny Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune has become a go-to source for serious white wines at reasonable prices. A willingness among Burgundy lovers to look beyond the traditional precincts for “collectible” bottles has made Saint-Aubin a destination rather than a detour.En Remilly is a south-facing Premiere Cru sitting directly above the Grand Crus of Puligny and Chassagne. Chavy purchased this piece of land, which had never been planted with vines, and planted young vines in the rocky soil, first having to break the large pieces of limestone on the surface. The site yields very elegant wines that are full of minerality.
