Enticing aromas of pomegranate and Bing cherry burst from the glass while being framed by lavender and graphite. There is a subtle earthiness that plays perfectly with a quality of hibiscus tea. In the palate, one is reminded of fruit leather flavors that are carried by the integrated acidity and a firmly delicate tannin structure. A hint of creaminess rounds out the extended finish of this highly ageable Pinot Noir.
Hyde De Villaine Description
This Pinot Noir program was started in 2010, with the planting of a 3.2-acre block at Hyde Vineyard. It took over 10 years of careful study by our founders to select the perfect site and vine material to make this wine so unique.
Made with minimal whole clusters and new oak, the wine showcases the energy and concentration of the Carneros terroir, with remarkable notes of violet, lavender, hibiscus, and red fruits in the nose, and a long mineral frame on the palate. This unique and elegant expression of Pinot Noir is an exquisite example of balance and precision.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2022 Pinot Noir Ygnacia Hyde Vineyard is a rich, bombastic wine. Dark red cherry, spice, cedar, and pipe tobacco are all dialed up. The Ygnacia is a blend of six massale selections. In 2022, it is a decidedly potent, dense wine.
James Suckling: 93 Points
Plenty of blueberry, violet, ink, lavender and gunmetal aromas. Medium-bodied with firm and chewy tannins that are fine and linear. Juicy at the end. A tannin-driven pinot noir.
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
This offers up a seductive and lush profile of gently mulled black cherry, mulberry and blackberry fruit laced with singed mesquite, black tea and black licorice through the finish, where a late backing spice accent peeks in. Shows the warmth of the vintage but also depth and range.
