Louis Jadot Description
Chapelle-Chambertin is one of the eight Grands Crus of the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, the most northern of the great communes of the Côte de Nuits. This vineyard lies on an east-facing slope. This Pinot Noir wine is fermented in vats for up to four weeks before maturing for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels.
Wine Advocate: 96 Points
Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru from Louis Jadot (Domaine Gagey) has a very subtle and refined bouquet with pure red berry fruit, minerals, rose petals and orange blossom—one of the most entrancing aromatics of the vintage. The palate is very well balanced with a slightly tart entry, driven along by the acidity but with sufficient fruit tucked in just below. It fans out gloriously on the finish and leaves you wanting more. Quite simply, this is one of the finest wines from this grand cru vineyard.
Vinous: 95 Points
Bright, dark red. Ineffable floral and pepper topnotes to the aromas of black raspberry, tart cherry, licorice, menthol and spice. At once savory and sweet; incredibly dense, refined wine with uncommon creaminess and concentration to its flavors of red and black fruits, minerals and herbs. Superb old vines thickness and silky depth here, but also with terrific definition, spine and energy.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
A lively, fluid red, delivering cherry, currant, spice and smoke flavors. Backed by serious tannins, this finds equilibrium on the lingering aftertaste.
Burghound: 92 Points
All but invisible wood adds breadth to the ripe but cool nose that combines wisps of red cherry with those of earth, tea, sauvage and humus. There is fine punch, intensity and detail to the overtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess a velvety mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the powerful, serious, concentrated, austere and ever-so-slightly edgy finale. This will require at least medium patience before it will be completely ready for prime time.
